And I will make of thee a great nation…..and make thy name great…
– Genesis 12: 2
Read: Deuteronomy 26:1-9; Isaiah 54:1-3
When God called Abraham out to cut covenant with him, one of the promises He made to him was, “I will make you great and make your name great.” As a child of God, that is a provision that exists for you. So today we will possess our God-assigned greatness in the covenant. Synonyms for the word ‘great’ include ‘exceed,’ & ‘go beyond.’ God ordained that you will go beyond where everyone in your family has gone. You were destined to break some records! When you exceed expectations and limits that have been set, you become recognized as ‘great.’ Now it is important to note, that as believers, we must be careful not to fall into the temptation of pride. We shouldn’t be seeking greatness in order to receive glory to ourselves, but to bring glory to our Heavenly Father. There is a spirit of competitive success out in the world and in some spheres of the church where people try to outdo each other in order to receive greater acclaim. That is not our mandate. We are to become enlarged so our lives can meaningfully affect humanity and then bring glory to God. Other synonyms for greatness include ‘magnify,’ ‘enlarge,’ ‘honor,’ ‘promote,’ ‘increase,’ etc. These are realms where God seeks to bring us to; realms of significance in every area of life. Don’t be so limited in your mind. Don’t write off your future because of somebody else’s experience. The best is yet to come. And no matter where you came out from, your best days are just ahead of you! I want you to enumerate in a journal what greatness means to you; what your life and family will appear like when you have been enlarged to the max. Put that before God today, and thank Him for taking you there by His covenant.
