” Therefore, my beloved brethren, be firm (steadfast), immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord [always being superior, excelling, doing more than enough in the service of the Lord], knowing and being continually aware that your labor in the Lord is not futile [it is never wasted or to no purpose]”
– I Corinthians 15:58 (AMP)

Usually when most people hear the word ‘ministry,’ they usually think about some pastoral or full time, or evangelistic vocation. But child of God, it is important for us to understand that God gives every believer a ministry. Your ministry is simply the calling you received from God to serve Him in various areas of your life. The word itself means ‘to serve’ and we have all been called to serve. Some of us serve God in a ‘spiritual’ based vocation, while the rest of us serve in some ‘secular’ vocation or the other. And many others are bi-vocational. Wherever you have been called, make sure you are serving God and make sure you are serving people. In Colossians 4:17, Apostle Paul wrote to a believer in the early church named Archippus (and I believe God put it in the Bible so you and I can read it like it was written to us personally). He said to make sure that you discharge carefully the duties of your ministry and fulfill the stewardship that you have received in the Lord. So whether you are an usher in your church, or a street evangelist, or a medical doctor, or a full-time parent, God is expecting you to give an account of your stewardship. So do it with excellence. One of our definitions of excellence is “Aspiring to be the best you can be in all areas of life, striving to exceed previous performances in every endeavor” Make sure you do that; because that is how your Heavenly Father gets the glory! He doesn’t just get glory when you preach or sing, or hand out tracts. But He gets glory from your shining through good deeds done to help people. The highest calling in life is the invitation to give God the glory through everything we do. So, go ahead and make adjustments in your ministry today. Remember Ephesians 6:8 assures us of great reward for our service. God will bless us now and through eternity for our excellent service. Thank God for your specific opportunities for service today. Amen.
