“The Lord God hath given me the tongue of the learned, that I should know how to speak a word in season to him that is weary: he wakeneth morning by morning, he wakeneth mine ear to hear as the learned.” – Isaiah 50:4
Wisdom is the knowledge of God, or the knowledge of God’s will made available to us so we can live the best life possible on the earth. And this knowledge and the blessing it carries is usually transmitted through the tongue. Wisdom grows in an environment of peace and edification, and by the right use of the tongue. The tongue is a small member of our body that can do great things just like a little kindling that can start a big fire. The tongue can also release mighty blessings over our own lives or those of other people. In the Old Testament, the way blessings were transmitted from one generation to the next was through the agency of the tongue. God spoke through the prophet Isaiah, and said, “I have put my words in your mouth…that I may plant the heavens and lay the foundations of the earth…” But God cannot use your tongue to pronounce and activate His blessings when your tongue is also an instrument in Satan’s hands and employed in vices like gossip, slander, backbiting, jesting, lying, or cursing. Can a fountain send forth simultaneously from the same opening fresh water and bitter water? No, it cannot. It is impossible for blessing and cursing to proceed out of the same mouth. The measure of wisdom you possess in your life can usually be determined by the flow of words out of your mouth. You can grow in wisdom today by developing the tongue of the learned. If you want to enjoy life and see good days on this earth, you must turn your tongue completely over to the Lord and let it become an instrument of His blessing. Do what the psalmist did and keep your tongue and your mouth with a bridle. Speak life. Speak good. Speak blessing. The angels are listening, and so is your adversary Satan. Build a good future for yourself and your family with your tongue. Be a man and woman of wisdom. Say it: “I speak life in Jesus’ mighty name!”
Prayer: Father, I thank you for giving me the tongue of the learned. I consecrate myself to you today and I dedicate my tongue and every member of my physical body to your purpose. I choose to live for your glory. I speak life and blessing. In Jesus’ mighty Name. Amen!
