Imparting life to the nations, one person at a time

Day 22: The Key to the Double Portion

2 Samuel 20:14-22; Ruth 1:1-22;

2 Kings 2: 9-15; Luke 16:8-12.

“I am one of the peaceable and faithful in Israel. You seek to destroy a city which is a mother in Israel. Why will you swallow up the inheritance of the Lord?” – 2 Samuel 20:19

Faithfulness is the key to the Double portion, or the full measure of God’s blessing. In the Old Testament, the birthright was tied to the Blessing, but only when the firstborn was faithful. The prophet Elisha inherited a double portion of the anointing of his master, Elijah, because he was faithful to the end. Ruth was tenacious and steadfastly minded, and she would not leave her mother-in-law Naomi even when given the chance. Because of her faithfulness, she reaped the harvest of wisdom and became married to the wealthiest man in the land. Faithfulness is a rare character in the world today mostly because most of us want everything fast and by any means possible. To be faithful is to be constant, unchanging, steadfast, true, consistent, reliable, dependable, and unwavering. The Bible says “The faithful will abound in blessings…” And one of the many abounding blessings of the faithful is wisdom. Faithfulness qualifies you for ‘True Riches’ or the Anointing. The anointing for your future endeavors is tied to your present faithfulness. In our theme scripture today, there’s a beautiful story of a faithful woman who rose up to save an entire city with her wisdom. When Joab, the servant of King David went into her city to destroy it because of one of the adversaries of the king who was hiding there, this wise woman stood in his way. She ultimately expelled the culprit, Sheba, but saved everybody else in the city because of the wisdom of God operating in her life. She said, “I’m faithful to my God, I’m faithful to my family, I’m faithful to my people, I’m faithful to my city.” Her faithfulness caused the wisdom of God to erupt in her life and deliverance came to her nation. Do you know God can empower you through wisdom to save your family, children, community, nation, and even generations yet unborn because of your faithfulness? Make a quality commitment to faithfulness today. And the wisdom of God will abound in your life. Amen!

Prayer: Father, your Word says that the faithful will abound in blessings and in wisdom. I commit to being faithful today. Help me give my best to every assignment and every relationship you have placed in my life. Help me enjoy the blessing of the Double portion. I thank you for it, Father. In Jesus’ mighty Name. Amen!
