Imparting life to the nations, one person at a time

Day 2: Wisdom is The Principal Thing

Proverbs 4:1-9; Proverbs 8:10-12.

“Above all and before all, do this: Get Wisdom! Write this at the top of your list: Get Understanding!” – Proverbs 4:7 MSG

It will certainly do us a lot of good to read the above verse of scripture from multiple modern translations so we can grab the importance of the instruction. Wisdom is the most important part. It must be at the beginning. Do not undertake anything, any project, or any initiative without wisdom. Don’t go on a journey, don’t make any plans, and don’t set out on anything in life without seeking and having the wisdom of God first. The original word translated as ‘Principal thing’ is the word ‘Reshiyth’ in Hebrew and it means first, beginning, chief, choice part, utmost, etc. Two of my favorite modern renditions of this verse read thus: ‘Wisdom is of utmost importance, therefore get wisdom, and with all your effort, work to acquire understanding’ (ISV); and ‘Getting wisdom is the most important thing you can do! And with your wisdom, develop common sense and good judgement’ (TLB). It is very easy to see that the most important thing we can do at the beginning of every season God gives us is to seek His wisdom. And that wisdom, when we get it, will be a door-opener to every other blessing that has been reserved for us in that season. Life will never be an experience of frustration for you when you do. The wisdom of God will produce grace after grace for every situation that will arise in your seasons. And through those graces, God will give you the upper hand so you can prosper.

Prayer: Father, I thank you for giving me the upper hand in every situation of life. I receive the Grace that is needed for this new season in my life. I make room for your wisdom in my life today. In Jesus’ mighty Name. Amen!
